What Is Publishing 4 Profit?

Publishing 4 Profit is a very simple idea based upon maximizing the amount of financial return you receive for the time, money, and energy invested in your work. When you Publish 4 Profit, you don’t just write something and sell it. You create a concept that you can sell, repackage in another format and sell again to the same buyers or to an entirely new audience, then repackage and sell it again, and then again! You should be able to write it once and market or use it at least four times in different formats. Some of those formats include, but are not limited to:

1 – articles

2 – booklets

3 – books

4 – e-books

5 – books on tape

6 – seminars

7 - special reports

The idea is to create an interlocking inventory of written work that you can market over and over again in different formats, and in which the things you write and publish will promote the sale of other articles, books, etc.

Let me give you an example. I publish bimonthly a 36 page tabloid newspaper for RVers called the Gypsy Journal RV Travel Newspaper www.gypsyjournal.net. Each issue includes stories about places for RVers to visit, articles on the RV lifestyle, and columns of interest to RVers. One popular feature of the Gypsy Journal is a travelogue I write every issue titled Meandering Down The Highway. In each issue this travelogue runs from 7,000 to 10,000 words.

I compiled our first year’s worth of Meandering Down The Highway columns into a self-published book by the same name, resulting in a new product to sell to our readers. From that book, I created a seminar by the same name that I present at RV shows and at the Life on Wheels RV conferences www.rvlifeonwheels.com. I publish an abbreviated version of the Meandering Down The Highway column on our website at  www.gypsyjournal.net. I also allow a couple of newspapers to publish excerpts from the Meandering Down The Highway column in their pages, with a byline and reference to our website, driving more traffic and sales toward the website. Thus, I write the column once and reformat and reuse it at least four times. Five in this case. That really beats having to create something new all of the time!

Another example; we publish a series of booklets for our readers. These include Gypsy Journal’s Guide To Free Campgrounds & Overnight Parking Spots, a 48 page booklet listing of over 1,000 city and county parks, businesses, and public lands where RVers can camp for free. Cost of this booklet is $8.95; RVers Guide To Fairgrounds Camping, a 24 page guide to over 250 fairgrounds nationwide offering RV parking ($7.50); RVers Guide To Modem Friendly Truck Stops, a 10 page guide to over 250 truck stops nationwide where RVers can access e-mail ($6.95); Gypsy Journal’s Guide to Public RV Dump Stations, a 28 page guide listing nearly 1,000 RV dump stations from coast to coast and in Canada ($7.50); RVers Guide To Casino Parking, a 21 page guide to casinos from across the country that offer free RV parking ($6.95); RV Good Guys, a 34 page guide to reliable RV service facilities coast to coast ($7.95); and Gypsy Journal’s Guide To RV Parks With WiFi, a 21 page guide to RV parks across the United States and in Canada that offer WiFi access. ($7.50). Each of these booklets costs just pennies to produce on our computer and laser printer, so the markup is high.

We sell these booklets through advertisements in the Gypsy Journal, on our website, on a commission basis on other RV related websites, and at RV shows and rallies where we have speaking engagements or vendor booths. The inside back cover of each booklet lists all of our books, booklets, and other products for sale. We also use the information from these guides in column format in the Gypsy Journal, providing us with content for the newspaper. At the top of each column is a pitch to purchase the booklet it represents. We then use the columns in our website,

We took the seven booklets listed above, converted them to PDF format, and sell them on a CD, a retail value of over $53, for $24.95, postpaid. The customer saves almost $20, and we have a new product that costs us less than 50 cents to produce that sells for a huge profit. The CD is marketed through the same avenues we do the printed booklets.

Again, we created one product (a booklet), we use the same information in columns in the newspaper, we use it in our website, we repackaged it with other booklets into CD format to create a new product, and we sell both booklets and the CD through other RV related websites. I also used many of the money saving ideas in these booklets in another book I self-published, The Frugal RVer. I then turned the book into a seminar to present at RV shows and rallies.

In addition, the product listing on the inside back covers of the booklets brings us even more sales! Everything works together to create and increase our income stream.

Are you beginning to see the benefits of Publishing 4 Profit? Instead of writing something, selling it, and moving on to something new, I have created an ongoing stream of revenue. Instead of having to come up with new projects all of the time, by creating a series of products that can be used over and over again, and that help sell my other products, I get the very best return for the time I have invested in creating the item originally, and I can spend more of my time marketing and bringing in money. Several of the booklets I have listed above have brought us in a steady income for years now.
